[Greystoked] Tarzan and the Huntress

Tim joins Michael and I for a look at the last film featuring Johnny Sheffied's Boy, as he and the Tarzan clan take on a political coup, and draw a river in the sand for a team of hunters who just can't resist crossing over that river and bringing down Tarzan's wrath. And there's a flying monkey! Check it out here.

[Greystoked] Tarzan and the Leopard Woman

Michael and I take fellow caster of pods Carlin Trammel out for a lunch of nerds as we kick back for a cool glass of Acquanetta, as homes are invaded, leopard statues are worshiped to, and even children finally get to experience the thrill of cutting out a beating heart. Check it out here.

[Greystoked] Tarzan and the Amazons

Michael and I are joined again by the beaming ray of glittery knowledge that is Melissa Kaercher, as Jane returns to the jungle at the same time Tarzan and Boy encounter a hidden civilization of amazons. And you'd think they could do more with both of these threads, but alas. Check it out here.

[Greystoked] Tarzan's Desert Mystery

Michael and I are joined by fellow caster of pods, Paxton Holley, as Tarzan and Boy journey across the great sands to an espionage adventure involving royal assassination, a singing magician, and Cheetah stealing every turban in sight. Check it out here.

[Greystoked] Tarzan Triumphs (1943)

At Greystoked, Michael and I are again joined by comic writer Christopher Mills as the property shifts to a new studio, returning to the hands of producer Sol Lesser, and hits the ground running as they pit Johnny's version of the hero against invading Nazis, as bitingly directed by an Austrian Jewish refugee of the still raging war. Check it out here.

[Greystoked] Tarzan's New York Adventure (1942)

At Greystoked, Michael and I are joined by prolific Tarzan author Martin Powell as our jungle hero dons a suit and hits the big city, gets into a legal battle over Boy, shrugs off Cheetah laying waste to a hotel, and oh hey, it's Elmo Lincoln! Check it out here.

[Greystoked] 1930s Recap

Michael, David, and I take a look back at the broader Tarzan media of the 1930s, where his films not only thrived, but he exploded into success in radio and television. Plus, Burroughs was still knocking out the books, the synopses of which Michael attempts to explain to us. Check it out here.

[Greystoked] Tarzan Finds a Son (1939)

Professor Alan joins Michael and I as we bring this decade of Tarzan cinema to a close with a look at the film which introduced Boy and almost killed off Jane. Parental rights are debated, beloved characters are shot and speared in the back, Cheetah and Tarzan share inside jokes, an entire family sprints full tilt across the screen, and the mythos of the Greystoke lineage finally makes an appearance in an MGM film. Sort of. Check it out here.

[Greystoked] Tarzan's Revenge (1938)

Michael and I are once again joined by David for a look at producer Sol Lesser's second attempt to spring Tarzan off into a new series of adventure films after MGM's license had reached its end, which failed so badly that Sol had to sell his remaining license to none other than MGM! A new Olympian is cast, swimming is synchronized, and many a tracking shot is panned as Tarzan gets some very non-vengeful revenge. Check it out here.

[Greystoked] Toofani Tarzan (1937)

At Greystoked, Melissa again joins Michael and I for an odd rarity, Toofani Tarzan (also known by the aromatic title Stormy Tarzan), the first adaptation of the character produced in India which led to a long string of Tarzan films in that country, some official, many not so much. Yet none of them ever adequately explain: what is Dadda? Check it out here.

[Greystoked] Tarzan Escapes (1936)

In our latest Greystoked, David once again joins Michael and I as we look at the struggling third entry in MGM's line of Tarzan films starring Johnny Weissmuller and Maureen O'Sullivan. The same old story beats are once again revisited, relatives show up just because we need a plot, the most sensible and modern of treehouses is somehow cobbled together, and massive reshoots mean we never get to see the promised vampire bats. That said, growling iguanas do indeed eat people! Check it out here.

[Greystoked] The New Adventures of Tarzan (1935)

At Greystoked, Michael and I are joined by fellow podcaster Melissa Kaercher to discuss The New Adventures of Tarzan (aka Tarzan and the Green Goddess), the 1935 serial which was the single outing as Tarzan for Olympic shot putter Herman Brix, who later became actor Bruce Bennett. A multitude of variants of the film were released or failed to be released. An entire cast and crew journeyed to Guatemala with an ape (and potentially a fake foot). Entire said crew then kept hiding in the rain forest from creditors. Actors were almost eaten. Clothes were torn into perfectly tailored loincloths. And marriages and divorces abounded as the couples involved decided to make some swaps. Check it out here.

[Greystoked] Tarzan and His Mate (1934)

At Greystoked, Michael and I are joined by blogger Kay for Tarzan and His Mate, the second of MGM's iconic series starring Johnny Weissmuller. The ethics of his romance with Jane are discussed, guys are creeps, copious nude swimming is beheld, and everyone is eaten by lions. Check it out here.

[Greystoked] Tarzan the Fearless (1933)

At Greystoked, Michael and I are joined by comic writer Christopher Mills to discuss the awkward serial Tarzan the Fearless, starring Buster Crabbe shortly before he was immortalized as Flash Gordon. Producer Sol Lesser makes his first of many appearances in the franchise, Butthead chuckles are evoked, and a meaty pair of buns flash their way into our hearts. Check it out here.

[Greystoked] 1910-1920s Recap

Michael and I look back on the first two decades of Tarzan in cinema, placing it against the backdrop of the original novels, other appearances in pop culture, and other jungle heroes created before and along the way. Check it out here.

[Greystoked] Tarzan the Tiger (1929)

Michael and I are once again joined by David May for a look at this transitional film which, while still largely silent, began adding in sound effects, a synched score, and our very first awkward Tarzan yell! Frank Merrill, the former stunt double of Elmo Lincoln, is back in the pelts for the second and final of his headlining serials, as Tarzan faces a jealous queen, multiple amnesiac blows to the head, a massive rubber crocodile, and the prettiest pouch of pebbles you've ever seen. Check it out here!

[Greystoked] Tarzan and the Golden Lion (1927)

Evie, my old friend and co-host from I Hate Love Remakes joins us for a look at this matinee quickie where James Pierce, the soon-to-be-son-in-law of Edgar Rice Burroughs in his lone outing as Tarzan, finds himself up against an unexpected sister, Boris Karloff in blackface, a Halloween store onesie, and the most unfortunate ape funeral captured on film. Check it out here!

[Greystoked] The Adventures of Tarzan (1921)

Michael and I are once again joined by his son David as we look at the silent serial edited from an even longer silent serial which marked the final outing of action star Elmo Lincoln as the iconic jungle king. Beards are grown and shorn, dudes are tossed left and right, and lions spring from all around. Check it out here!

[Greystoked] The Son of Tarzan (1920)

In which, in just our second episode, we reach an epic conclusion to the Tarzan franchise, with torches being passed, a surprisingly captivating romance, and a lead who's actually capable of climbing trees. Check it out here.
